Because of Silverdale's location on the Kitsap Peninsula transportation takes on several possible forms. Automobiles cross several bridges to access the county and service is also available cross-sound via the Washington State Ferry system. Kitsap County is anchored by a small land bridge in Mason County to the southwest. The Hood Canal Floating bridge in the northwest corner of the county is the gateway to the Olympic Peninsula, Port Townsend and Port Angeles. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge spans a lower portion of Puget Sound is the connecting link to Tacoma with easy access to Interstate 5. Heading east to Seattle means a trip across the Sound on a ferry boat. Silverdale is situated directly on Hwy 3, the largest freeway in the county. It is approximately 30 miles to Tacoma and 60 miles (by car) to Seattle.
AIRPORT
The Bremerton National Airport is a full-service facility which can accommodate 727, 737 and 757 and DC 9 jets and also provides a base of operations to many of the personal and business aircraft in the county. Bremerton National is only 10 minutes by air from SeaTac Airport and Boeing Field. Major air carriers serve the Seattle/Tacoma International airport, a 70 minute drive from Silverdale.
FERRY SERVICE
Car and passenger ferries between Kitsap County and the east side of Puget Sound allow Kitsap residents access to the major metropolitan center of Seattle. Ferry terminals in Kitsap are located at Kingston, Bainbridge Island, Bremerton and Southworth in Port Orchard.
TRANSIT
Kitsap Transit is a full service bus line serving all of Kitsap County and each of the four ferry terminals. Kitsap Transit offers countywide Paratransit service as well as special transportation programs for employers with 100 or more employees.
SHIP AND RAIL
AMTRAK stations are located in both Tacoma and Seattle. The King Street station in Seattle is within walking distance of the ferry terminal. There are no commercial shipping berths in Silverdale. The Port of Bremerton does offer commercial access with fuel available at the Port Orchard marina. The Port of Silverdale offers a park and transient moorage.
